Aurelio Planes Rodriguez

Aurelio Planes Rodriguez was born in Guantanamo, Cuba in 1992. In 2007 he joined the Manuel Muñoz Cedeño National Art School and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Arts, specializing in teaching and the professional performance of Folk and Modern-Contemporary dance. In 2010 he began to work as a teacher of Choreography and Composition at the Regino Eladio Boti Vocational School of Art in Guantanamo. He started his professional career with Danza Fragmentada, a well-recognized dance company in Cuba. He created dance pieces for Danza Fragmentada that are still a part of the company's repertoire nearly a decade later. He won many national awards and eventually worked his way to one of the highest positions in the company. Aurelio's desire to take his professional career to an even higher level took him to Havana where he got accepted into Danza Teatro Retazos. There he taught classes at the company's youth academy and had the opportunity to travel to different countries such as Sweden, the Netherlands and Canada. Since moving to Austin, TX he has danced and collaborated with Ballet East Dance Company, Lotus Contemporary Performing Arts and Proyecto Teatro and has co-founded Chamacos Dance Company with Inna Grudtcina.

Inna Grudtcina Co-Artistic Director

Inna Grudtcina

Inna Grudtcina was born and raised in Vladivostok, Russia. She started to dance and perform at the age of 14 and continued to develop her career in different countries over the next decade; she was a principal dancer in shows in S. Korea (“Cinderella”), China, Spain (a tribute to Michael Flatley’s “Lord of the dance”) and Israel (“White noise” Vertigo Dance Company repertoire). She was trained in ballet by M. Fyodorov and A. Strokin – nationally recognized ballet teachers. She received her contemporary dance training with Kauri, a well-known Russian contemporary dance company, and received further training at Vertigo International Dance Training Program (Israel). Inna eventually returned to Russia, where she was a teacher and successful choreographer. Her works won awards at regional and national dance festivals and contests. Inna’s passion for dance pushed her to constantly improve her dancing and teaching skills at numerous workshops in Russia and abroad. She moved to Austin, TX on 2013. She is a former member of Ballet East Dance Company and Lotus Contemporary Performing Arts and is now the co-founder of Chamacos Dance Company.

Yelena Konetchy Company Member

Yelena Konetchy

Dance artist and filmmaker Yelena Konetchy lives in Austin, Texas, where she performs, teaches and choreographs for the stage and screen. Her dance film Solace Is screened at the Austin Short Film Festival in fall 2016, New York City Independent Film Festival May of 2017, and DDCF Dance Film Fest August of 2017. Yelena began her career at The Illinois Ballet, followed by Charleston Ballet Theatre, Thel Dance Theatre as Company Manager, and a free- lance artist. She is currently in post-production on The Ivory Seed and on dance film Bloom.

Jazmin Cancio Lucio

Jazmin Cancio Lucio

Jazmin is a Mexican-Cuban dancer and actress. She has trained in Mexican and Afro-Caribbean dance styles and performed internationally throughout Mexico and Europe with several companies including as a soloist with Jarocho Dance Company. In 2011, Jazmin was invited to join a short cast of dancers to tour with Lila Downs and she also performed in the corps of the iconic Mexican dance master Amalia Hernandez’s main company. In 2013, Jazmin made her operatic debut as an actress and dancer for the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) under the direction of the leaders of Compañía Nacional de Teatro, Luis de Tavira and Antonio Salinas. Over the last several years Jazmin has collaborated in Mexico with Imaginarium Dance Company as an interdisciplinary performer. She recently received her bachelor’s degree in Gestión Cultural from the Universidad de Guadalajara and moved to Austin, TX where she works with Creative Action and continues to grow as a dancer and teacher.

Miguel Alejandro Lopez Jorge

Miguel López was born in Santa Clara, Cuba where he completed primary school at the Olga Alonso Gonzalez Vocational School of Art. He is a graduate of the National School of Dance of Cuba. In 2016 Miguel joined the prestigious company Danza Contemporanea De Cuba and had the opportunity to work with recognized national and international choreographers, participate in the Bolshoi Festival (Moscow, Russia) and Fall For Dance Festival in New York City Center. Since immigrating to USA he has participated in festivals such as San Antonio Dance Fest where he taught master classes and participated as a dancer in improv jams in the center of San Antonio.

Arianna Nunez Jordan

Arianna Nuñez Jordan

Arianna Nuñez Jordán was born in Bayamo, Cuba. She graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Contemporary and Folkloric Cuban Dance from the University of Arts in Cuba. During this time Arianna was a member of the dance company Danza Libre and in 2014 she performed in Lloret del Mar, Spain with the French company TROPICUBA as part of the fourth Congress D’Cuba. From 2015 to 2019 she was also a member of the Cuban company Los Hijos Del Director, performing The Last Resource in the COLOURS International Dance Festival in Stuttgart, Germany and La tribulación de Anaximandro (Hombre, Arche, Apeiron) in Toronto, Canada as part of Fall for Dance North. Arianna has performed at the Cuba Dance Festival in coordination with New York’s Joyce Theater and currently lives in Austin, Texas.

Luis Ordaz

A native of Mexico City, Luis moved to Austin at a very young age and flourished artistically under the tutorship of his mother; a trained dancer from the prestigious Bellas Artes in Mexico. At the age of 16, due to his talent and dedication, Luis landed his first professional role as co-founder and scenic director of Proyecto Teatro, Austin's leading Spanish-language theater company. Continuing to excel at a rapid rate, he moved up department by department until finally taking helm of Proyecto Teatro in 2007 as Artistic and Executive director, being 21 years of age. Luis has directed over 30 productions, and has had the opportunity to travel to New York City, Mexico, Panama, and Thailand. In 2011 he received the MACC emerging talent award. His multi-faceted interest in the arts led him to partner wuth Ballet East in the 2012 summer production of "Hear Me, See Me", which sparked him to hone his artistry in dance again. Since reigniting his passion for dance, Luis has worked with Ballet East Dance Company, Lotus Contemporary Performing Arts, and Chamacos Dance Company as a dancer and actor.

Rachel Nayer

Rachel Nayer

Rachel Nayer was born in Austin, TX into a family that celebrates the expressive nature of the body.  Rachel’s earliest performances included busking with her dad at art festivals and travelling the country as a member of an eight-piece classical guitar ensemble.  Performance and movement have always been central to Rachel’s life. She has primarily studied ballet and modern and received her yoga teacher training certificate in 2015. She spent 2017 studying Gaga and learning repertory from Vertigo and Batsheva Dance Companies at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. Rachel has danced with Kevin Williamson, Ronit Ziv, Suchi Branfman, Kim Gadlin, Project 21 Dance, Tero Saarinen Company, and Diverse Space Dance Theater. In 2019 she received the ARCOS Dance Artist Development finalist award. Rachel is a recent graduate of Scripps College where she was a three-time recipient of the Lucille Mellon Scholarship and a double major with honors in both Dance (Performance & Choreography) and Environmental Science. She is currently the Development and Communications Associate at Forklift Danceworks.

Emily Heath

Emily Heath

Emily Heath is a 17 year old college student. She has been dancing since the young age of eight years old and has been classically trained in Cecchetti. Emily passed highly commended in the National Exams for the Cecchetti Council of America in Grades 1-5. As well as being trained in jazz, hip hop, and modern, allowing her to be accepted into Hubbard Street Dance Chicago multiple years consecutively, increasing her techniques in Horton and Grahm. She believes that dance has shaped her into a person who values hard work and perseverance above anything else. Currently Emily is studying neoclassical techniques at Grace Ballet Conservatory and has plans to pursue a professional career as a dancer.

Jennifer Ramos

Jennifer Ramos

Jennifer Ramos, M.Ed was born in the beautiful border town of El Paso, TX. Her background is a mix of world dance, yoga, theater arts, musical theater, exercise science, business administration, fitness, and vocal performance. She competed with a small group of her Class Act peers in Destination Imagination theater competition placing first at regional, state, and 3rd at globals competitions. At age 15, she won the city-wide Shakira “Hips Don't Lie” contest and had the opportunity to meet and dance onstage at her Oral Fixation Tour in El Paso, Texas. In her hometown, she performed at the Hyundai Sunbowl half-time shows with artists such as Rihanna, Baby Bash, and Diamond Rio. Throughout college, she was involved in the El Paso artist community by performing with Jago Sazu and Mountain Movement Dance Company. She studied at Santa Monica College working towards an associate of arts degree in dance performance and mass communications. Her works in California include Synapse Dance Theater Contemporary Dance Ensemble, Global Motion World Dance Company, performing at the ACDFA, and working as President of the SMC Dance Club. Jen’s musical studies continued with a music scholarship at Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX. There she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus of Communications, Kinesiology, and Music in 2014. Jen graduated from Angelo State University with a Master of Education in Coaching, Sport, Recreation, & Fitness Administration. Currently, you can find her teaching yoga, fitness, and dance classes for all ages, or dancing professionally with Chamacos Dance Company.
